Professor Blume's research focuses on three distinct areas: (1) likelihood methods for measuring statistical evidence, (2) methodology for analyzing and interpreting Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves, (3) the design, conduct and analysis of Clinical Trials, especially sequential Trials, of diagnostic and screening technologies. He also has interest in applying ROC curve concepts to Biomarkers for the prediction of disease.

Professor Blume is a founder and the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) for a newly formed Biostatistics consulting company: Analytical Edge Inc. (www.analyticaledge.com). Analytical Edge offers cutting edge expertise and software in likelihood methods for measuring the strength of statistical evidence.

Biography

Dr. Blume is an Associate Professor in the Center for Statistical Sciences at Brown University. Dr. Blume received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, where he was the recipient of a National Eye Institute Traineeship in Clinical Trials. He has extensive experience in the development, operation, analysis, and methodological aspects of Clinical Trials. Dr. Blume is a founder and the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Analytical Edge Inc (www.analyticaledge.com).

Dr. Blume is also the Deputy Direction of the Biostatistics and Data management center for the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN), a NCI funded cooperative group that specializes in clinical trials evaluating new medical imaging technology (www.acrin.org). He is also the lead statistician on six ACRIN trials that range in size and scope: a retrospective reader study (ACRIN 6662: 24 cases and 16 readers), a cohort study of women with stage III breast cancer (ACRIN 6657; 244 participants anticipated), and a large prospective screening trial of whole breast ultrasound (ACRIN 6666; 2808 participants anticipated).
